Description : A medium-sized, glabrous, deciduous tree with narrow crown. Leaves coriaceous, 20-45 cm long, linear-oblong or oblong-lanceolate, shining. Flowers white, 19 mm diam., in fascicles of 4-8 from the axils of fallen leaves. Fruit as large as a middle-sized apple, smooth, very short-pointed at the apex, deep yellow when ripe.
Distribution : Forests of Chittagong Hill Tracts and Cox’s Bazar.
Chemical Constituents : Xanthochymol, isoxanthochymol, cambogin, volkensiflavone, morelloflavone, biflavones GB-1 and GB-1a, maclurin, 1,5-dihydroxyxanthone and 1,7-dihydroxyxanthone have been isolated from fruits (Rastogi & Mehrotra, 1993).
Uses : Fruits are anthelmintic and cardiotonic, improves appetite. Ripe fruit is tonic, invigorating and alexipharmac, good in heart trouble and biliousness. A sherbat made with “Amsul” (sun-dried slices of the fruit), with a little rock-salt, pepper, cumin, gin
