Description : A tall evergreen tree, usually butressed at the base. Leaves 10-15 cm long, oblong-lanceolate, acute or acuminate, obscurely and irregularly crenate-serrate or subentire. Racemes 5-7.5 cm long, from the old wood, flowers small, petals 8 mm long, oblong, laciniate about half way down, ciliolate. Drupes 1.3-2 cm diam., globose or somewhat obovoid, purple.
Distribution : Forests of Chittagong, Chittagong Hill Tracts, Sylhet.
Chemical Constituents : Leaves contain different types of alkaloids including 7 isomeric form of elaeocarpiline, elaeocarpidine, dl-élaeocarpine, quercetin, gallic acid, ellagic acid, rudrakine etc. (Asolkar et al., 1992).
