Description : A robust undershrub, 60-120 cm high. Leaves 3.4-9 cm long, oblanceolate-oblong, obtuse or retuse, silky-pubescent beneath. Flowers numerous, large, in erect, terminal racemes, 15-30 cm long, corolla 2.5 cm long, yellow with a purple tinge. Pods 2.5-3.8 cm long, linear-oblong, slightly broader upwords.
Distribution : Khulan, Cox’s Bazar and Jessore, in fallow lands.
Chemical Constituents : Seeds contain as high as 10% pyrrolizinine alkaloids including monocrotaline, retusine and spectabiline and flavonoids. Seeds also contain quercetin, quercetin-3-o-glucoside and isoquercitrin also isolated from seeds. Leaves contain crotaline alkaloids. P
Uses : Plants are used in scabies and impetigo. It causes hepatic diseases in birds and animals. EtOH(50%) extract of aerial parts is spasmolytic and CNS depressant (Asolkar et al., 1992).
