Description : A small unarmed shrub up to 1.2 m high, branches fulvous-stigose upwards. Leaves 14 cm or more, ovate or elliptic, acute or acuminate, fulvous-strigose on the nerves beneath. Flowers in dense fulvous-hairy unilateral spikes, often crowded at the tops of the branches, corolla blue, 3.7-5 cm long, funnel-shaped in the upper half, lobes ovate. Capsule 18 mm long.
Distribution : Forests of Chittagong and Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Chemical Constituents : The plant contains ?- &?-sitosterol (Asolkar et al., 1992).
Uses : The plant is bitter, pungent, mild antiseptic, useful in ulcers, skin diseases, leucoderma, pains, itching, inflammations, bronchitis, and diseases of the teeth. The root is used by the Santals as a remedy for cough.
Habit : Shrub
