Disease : ophthalmia, inflammation, blindness, earache, fever, spleen complaints, pimples, sores and dysentery.
Description : A procumbent herb, stem quadrangular, hirsute, hispid, 15-35 cm long. Leaves subsessile, 1.25-3.7 cm long, oblong or elliptic, often rounded at the tip, scabrid, pubescent. Flower very small, white or bluish, 4-6 in a whorl within the stipular cup.
Distribution : All over Bangladesh in fallow lands.
Chemical Constituents : Plants contain ?-sitosterol and ursolic acid, and d-mannitol. Seeds contain isorhamnetin (Asolkar et al., 1992).
Uses : Plant is used in ophthalmia, inflammation of eye and gums, blindness, earache, fever, spleen complaints, pimples, sores and dysentery. A decoction of the root is used as an alterative. Seeds are used in diarrhoea and dysentery in Khagrachari. EtOH(50%)
Habit : Herb
